Steven Sands

Steven Sands’ professional experience began as a member of the Fixed Income Team with L.F. Rothschild. Thereafter, Steven leveraged his experience servicing both high net worth and institutional accounts at Oppenheimer & Co. He continued to broaden his experience at Laidlaw, Adams & Peck, where he focused on private equity and corporate finance. Eventually, Steven joined his brother, Martin, in the opening of Rodman & Renshaw’s New York office where his experience earned him a seat on the firm’s board. In 1990, they founded Sands Brothers and Co., a NYSE member investment bank and brokerage firm.

As the firm expanded, it included seats on the Toronto Stock Exchange, Montreal Bourse, and a passport license with the FSA (UK). This led to the opening of its technology-based San Francisco office and the creation of Sands Brother Asset Management, which funded investments in a broad spectrum of industries.

As Co-CEO of Sands Brothers Asset Management, Steven managed the Select Access Funds, Sands Brothers Venture Capital funds, as well as numerous other special purpose vehicles. In addition, he has worked closely with his brother Martin in assembling, acquiring, and selling over 500,000 square feet of commercial office space.

In 2007, Steven cofounded Genesis Merchant Partners (“GMP”) to offer strategic and opportunistic asset-based and secured loans in underserved markets. GMP offered financing to companies with strong assets and cash flows in niche markets that were often overlooked by banks and other traditional providers of capital.

Steven earned a bachelor’s degree from Hamilton College. He has been a director of numerous public and private companies across a wide range of industries including Bright Point Inc., a wireless technology company later acquired by Ingram Micro, and Air Methods, a medical air transport company that was acquired by American Securities. He has served as a trustee of the Friends School in Locust Valley, New York, chairs a foundation dedicated to better human outcomes with his children and is active in numerous other charitable endeavors.
